​IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH DURHAM, NC

​Pastoral Associate for Music and Liturgy

​We are seeking a full-time Pastoral Associate for Music and Liturgy (PAML) well-versed in a variety of musical genres, to lead our congregation and volunteer choirs.
A successful candidate must:
  • Be trained organist or pianist with experience as choral director,
  • Be comfortable working with adults and children,
  • Be self-motivated and collaborative,
  • Be skilled in traditional and contemporary Catholic sacred music and liturgy.

The minimum requirements for the position of PAML are:
  • A practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church.
  • A Bachelor of Arts degree in music, theology, or related field.
  • Proficient (moderate) in English and Spanish.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in Catholic parish music ministry.
  • Demonstrated proficiency as an organist and/or pianist.
  • Demonstrated competency directing volunteer choirs.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of employees and volunteers.
  • Completion of a diocesan background check and ministerial training.

The PAML is primarily responsible for:
  • Directing or coordinating the musicians and singers at 7 weekend Masses in English and Spanish.
  • Scheduling cantors for all Masses.
  • Coordinating additional or replacement musicians and singers as needed.
  • Hosting weekly rehearsals in English and in Spanish, with extra rehearsals as needed.
  • Developing a Children's Choir for occasional Masses and performances.
  • Training and scheduling sound technicians for all Masses.
  • Planning music, preparing worship aids, and playing for primary liturgies, such as:
    • weekend Masses and Holy Days
    • First Reconciliation
    • First Holy Communion, Confirmation.
  • Cataloging, maintaining, and developing music resources and repertoire.
  • Scheduling regular maintenance of the church pianos and organ.
  • Collaborating with the Pastor and Parish Staff for liturgies and other parish events
  • Working with engaged couples to plan and coordinate music and musicians for weddings. (Basic stipends for musicians and singers)
  • Planning and coordinating music and musicians for funerals. (Basic stipends for musicians and singers)
  • Planning yearly budget under the guidance of the Finance Council.
  • Attending parish staff meetings and scheduling regular office hours.
  • Continuing professional formation in Catholic liturgy and/or music.
  • Reporting directly to the Pastor.
