DURHAM CROP HUNGER WALK
JUSTICE, PEACE, AND INTEGRITY OF CREATION (JPIC)
51st ANNUAL
DURHAM CROP HUNGER WALK
On behalf of Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC), thank you to all our parishioners who donated and participated in the 51st Annual Durham CROP Hunger Walk. Last year, the Durham CROP Hunger Walk met its goal of raising over $221,000 (a new record)! That made the "Durham CROP Hunger Walk" the largest CROP Hunger Walk in America! As of the beginning of May, this year's Durham CROP Hunger Walk has raised almost $198,000!
All funds go to Church World Services to help fight hunger both internationally and locally, with 25% of all funds going directly to Durham area food charities such as Families Moving Forward, Urban Ministries of Durham, Meals on Wheels, and local Food Banks.
Thanks to your generosity, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church has been either the first or second largest fundraising church in Durham (awarded the "Golden" or "Silver Sneakers Award"). None of this would have been possible without the combined efforts of our parishioners who took time to help: Registering for the CROP Walk in the gathering spaces after masses; raising financial support like our Respeto ministry's Car Wash fundraiser; donating to our Love Fund ministry for this event; or simply gathering with friends to walk with us as a parish. Thank you to everyone for helping us alleviate the suffering caused by hunger and poverty.

CROP HUNGER WALK: A BRIEF OVERVIEW
Information courtesy of crophungerwalk.org
Every year our Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) helps to organize Immaculate Conception's participation in the Durham CROP Hunger Walk. Thanks to the generous donations and participation of our parishioners, Immaculate Conception has won the Durham CROP Hunger Walk Gold or Silver Sneakers Award numerous times over the last 20 years.
Beginning in 1947 as the Crop Project, "farmers were asked to donate food and seed crops to hungry neighbors" after WWII in Europe and Asia. The US also raised funds to ship surplus crops to hungry people worldwide. Today, the CROP Hunger Walk supports the global mission of Church World Service, a large, ecumenical faith-based relief organization helps people all over the world through just and sustainable responses to hunger, poverty, displacement, and disaster (food, water systems, farming help, and much more).

The Durham CROP Hunger Walk raises more than $6 million annually for World Relief. Locally, 25% of the funds raised by the Durham CROP Hunger Walk stay in our community to support local hunger fighting efforts. These donations are distributed to local food security organizations. Some of these organizations have included: Antioch Builds Community, Families Moving Forward, Food Bank of C&E NC, Housing for New Hope, Iglesia Presbyteriana Emanuel, La Semilla, Feed My Sheep, Mt. Calvary UCC Food Panty, Open Table Ministry, RAFI-USA, Society of St. Andrews, Threshold, Meals on Wheels, and Urban Ministries of Durham.
Parishioners can walk to help raise funds, sponsor a walker with a pledge, or volunteer and offer support for the event.
