FAMILIES MOVING FORWARD (FMF)
JUSTICE, PEACE, AND INTEGRITY OF CREATION (JPIC)

Picture
Families Moving Forward (FMF) is the primary agency in Durham focused on addressing the needs of families with children who are experiencing homelessness. Families Moving Forward has served almost 350 families since its formation in 2016 with the merger of Durham Interfaith Hospitality Network (DIHN) with Genesis Home. Immaculate Conception Catholic Church's JPIC has been partnering with Families Moving Forward, and DIHN before that, for 25 years. It is a critical ministry allowing parishioners to provide compassionate service and hospitality, as they witness to the human dignity of all in our community.
Families Moving Forward is a leader in Durham and throughout North Carolina in addressing the impact of homelessness on children. Its two-generation approach recognizes both individual needs as well as the needs of the family, combining interventions for parents and children to interrupt the cycle of poverty and homelessness.

All donations and volunteer support help Families Moving Forward provide life-changing interventions, skills, and opportunities for families in its emergency shelter, rapid rehousing, and aftercare programs.

2025 CHEFS FOR CHANGE

Two incredible events for one great cause!

Chefs for Change is a fundraising dinner series that pairs the burgeoning Durham food scene with the needs of families experiencing homelessness. This is more than a dinner – this is a fine dining experience with a purpose.
Families Moving Forward invites you to join them on May 22, 2025, 6 pm, at the Lincoln on Geer for Cirque du Support! A carnival-inspired mixer, Cirque will feature four local chefs (including Seth Gross of Bull City Burger and Brewery) crafting delicious small plates, fun games & activities to learn about FMF and the families we serve, and a silent auction full of small and great wonders you will not find anywhere else! Tickets are on sale now!

Also, save the date for our Annual Gala and Live Auction on November 6, 2025, 6 pm, at The Cookery. Families Moving Forward will be serving up a one-of-a-kind sit-down dinner, with each course prepared by a different acclaimed local chef! They will also be hosting a live auction with unique experiences on the block.

HOUSEWARE SHARE EVENT

Ready for spring cleaning?

Families Moving Forward (FMF) renewed their annual “Houseware Share” event. The event took place at the United Methodist Church (1209 N. Elizabeth Street, Durham).

Members of the community donated new or gently used household items and furniture for families in their “Branching Out” aftercare program. After FMF families selected what they needed, there was a yard sale open to the public (12-2 pm) with all proceeds benefitting Families Moving Forward.
