Parish Friars

Fr. Jacek Orzechowski, O.F.M.
Pastor
Fr. Jacek was born and grew up in Poland. He joined the Franciscan Friars of Holy Name Province in 1995 and was ordained in 2002 after receiving his Master of Divinity degree from the Washington Theological Union.
Immaculate Conception Parish was his first assignment from 2002 to 2008. He subsequently served for nine years at St. Camillus Church in Silver Spring, MD, and the last three years at Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington.
In September 2020, Fr. Jacek was appointed pastor of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Fr. Hugh Macsherry, O.F.M.
Parochial Vicar
Fr. Hugh joined the friars in 2002, he made his first profession in 2004, and was ordained in 2009. He grew as the seventh of eight children from Baltimore, MD. In his home parish, he sang in the choir and participated in the Boy Scouts. Fr. Hugh graduated from the University of Maryland and taught middle school Spanish for a year before entering formation with the friars of Holy Name Province. As a friar, Fr. Hugh has served in Boston, MA and Camden, NJ, especially in Spanish-language ministry and with the Deaf. He is happy he is living, working, and praying with the faith community of Durham.

Fr. Salim entered the Franciscan order in 1984, and made his simple profession on June 12, 1985. He pronounced his solemn profession on October 6, 1991 and was ordained priest on April 5, 1994. Immediately after the ordination he worked in India for 9 years and was sent to Canterbury, England, for his higher studies in Christian spirituality and guided spiritual direction. He obtained a licentiate in Christian Franciscan spirituality. After that he worked in Libya, South Africa, and Singapore. He is also well versed in Syro–Malabar logical rite. Therefore, bi-ritual in liturgy. His moto of life is to serve God and God’s people unconditionally. He loves the ability to share in this journey of faith with everyone he come into contact with. It is His privilege and a blessing to share in the faith journey of those who come to Immaculate Conception Church.

Father Gonzalo de Jesús Torres-Acosta, OFM was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. He earned a degree in petroleum engineering from Universidad de América in Bogotá, and a Master degree on Divinity from the Washington Theological Union in Washington D.C. He took Solemn Vows in 2006. After being ordained as a Catholic priest in 2008, Fr. Gonzalo served three years at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Manhattan. In 2011 he was assigned as parochial vicar at St. Anthony’s in Butler and St. Mary’s in Pompton Lakes, NJ. He also assisted in the Vocation Office for Holy Name Province. In 2017 Fr. Gonzalo was assigned as pastor of Saint Mary’s Church. He served in that position until September 2020, when he was assigned to Immaculate Conception Church in Durham, NC.
