VALENTINE'S DAY FAIR TRADE CHOCOLATE SALE
JUSTICE, PEACE, AND INTEGRITY OF CREATION (JPIC)

2026 VALENTINE'S DAY FAIR TRADE CHOCOLATE SALE: $5,602.18
THANK YOU FOR YOUR RECORD-BREAKING GENEROSITY
4 YEARS IN A ROW!

On behalf of Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) and Bull City Fair Trade, we would like to thank all our Immaculate Conception parishioners for supporting our Valentine's Day Fair Trade Chocolate Sale again this year! We are particularly grateful for the efforts of our Hispanic Young Adults Ministry (PJH El Sembrador) for helping our JPIC lead this event for our parish community again this year.
For the fourth year in a row, your continued generosity has led to the highest sales level recorded in the history of our parish ($5,602.18)! These sales support fair trade-certified farmers and workers, living wages and just compensation, safer working conditions, and reduce forced labor and child labor. 10% of these proceeds are donated back to our JPIC so we can continue to serve our parish community. Thank you for your commitment to embody the Gospel’s call to work for justice in the world!

Celebrate Love with Justice!
JPIC Valentine’s Day Fair Trade Chocolate Sale
February 7–8 | After All Masses | Gathering Space

Join us the weekend before Valentine’s Day as Immaculate Conception’s Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) teams up with Bull City Fair Trade for our annual Valentine's Day Fair Trade Chocolate Sale! Our Hispanic Young Adults Ministry (El Sembrador) once again will help lead this special event for our parish community.

WHY FAIR TRADE MATTERS

Our JPIC ministries help parishioners live out Catholic Social Teaching and the Gospel’s call to justice, including supporting Fair Trade practices. When you purchase these delicious chocolates for yourself, friends, and loved ones, you are doing more than sharing sweetness… you are promoting justice!

YOUR IMPACT

By choosing Fair Trade-certified products, you help ensure:
  • Living wages and fair compensation for farmers and workers.
  • Safe working conditions.
  • Prohibition of forced and child labor.
  • Empowerment for farmers to lift themselves out of poverty and build sustainable businesses that strengthen their communities.

FAIR TRADE PRINCIPLES
AND OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH
BULL CITY FAIR TRADE

Bull City Fair Trade, previously known as One World Market, began in 1991 in the basement of Watts Street Baptist Church in Durham, NC. Bull City Fair Trade is part of a worldwide movement that is striving to improve the livelihood of disadvantaged people in developing countries through the expansion of fair trade.

Fair trade is an ethical, environmentally conscious, sustainable business approach rooted in dialogue, respect, and transparency. It is a set of principles that focuses on opportunities for disadvantaged artisans and farmers living in developing countries. Fair trade is not charity, but a long-term system that seeks justice in the international trading system.

The gifts that are available for purchase through Bull City Fair Trade have been made by organizations that assure that the dignity of the worker, artisan, or farmer who produced them is paid a fair wage for their labor. Items include fair trade coffee, chocolate, and handmade art pieces. Yet, fair trade is much more than a fair price!

This system of exchange seeks to create greater equity and partnership in the international trading system by:

  • Creating Opportunities for Economically and Socially Marginalized Producers
  • Developing Transparent and Accountable Relationships
  • Building Capacity
  • Promoting Fair Trade
  • Paying Promptly and Fairly
  • Supporting Safe and Empowering Working Conditions
  • Ensuring the Rights of Children
  • Cultivating Environmental Stewardship
  • Respecting Cultural Identity
Fair Trade can empower the poorest of the poor by providing a holistic approach to trade and development that aims to alter the ways in which commerce is conducted. Fair Trade Organizations seek to create sustainable and positive change in developing and developed countries.

FAIR TRADE PRINCIPLES INCLUDE:

FAIR PRICE
Democratically organized farmer groups receive a guaranteed minimum floor price and an additional premium for certified organic products.
FAIR LABOR CONDITIONS
Workers on fair trade farms enjoy freedom of association, safe working conditions, and living wages. Forced child labor is strictly prohibited.
DEMOCRATIC AND TRANSPARENT ORGANIZATIONS
Fair trade farmers and farm workers decide democratically how to invest Fair Trade revenues.
DIRECT TRADE
With fair trade, importers purchase from fair trade producer groups as directly as possible, eliminating unnecessary middlemen and empowering farmers to develop the business capacity necessary to compete in the global marketplace.
ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
Harmful agrochemicals and GMOs are strictly prohibited in favor of environmentally sustainable farming methods that protect farmers’ health and preserve valuable ecosystems for future generations.
COMMUNITY DEVELOMENT
Fair trade farmers and farm workers invest fair trade premiums in social and business development projects like scholarship programs, quality improvement trainings, and organic certification.
