Meet Susanne Newman
In 2003, when I registered my daughter for faith formation, our parish offered a choice: a traditional book-based program or a Montessori-based program. Being familiar with Maria Montessori's work, I chose the Montessori-based program, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.
Shortly after that, I said to Margie Burton, "Let me know if you need any help. I know a little about Montessori." Margie put me in touch with Lynne Worthington, one of the founders of the CGS program at our parish. My small offer to help put me on a path I simply did not anticipate: Decades of (happily!) volunteering in our parish Atria; substituting at Immaculata; working as an Atrium catechist at Immaculata; being part of forming our Diocesan Special Needs & Disabilities Ministry Collaborative; and helping to develop our parish Special Needs Atrium.
I am grateful for Lynne, for all the catechists who have contributed to our CGS program, and for all the children who have attended Atrium. Honestly, they are the reason I paused a happy retirement to serve as your Director of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. I do this with my husband's blessing because he knows how important this work is to me. Thank you, dear families of Immaculate Conception and Immaculata, for sharing your precious children. It is a privilege to help guide each child on her or his own path of knowing the love of the Good Shepherd. I will do my best for you.
