MIGRANT WORKER HYGIENE KITS
JUSTICE, PEACE, AND INTEGRITY OF CREATION (JPIC)
“Every time we sit at a table to enjoy the fruits and grain and vegetables from our good earth, remember that they come from the work of men and women and children who have been exploited for generations.”

Lent Collection
03/02-04/06, Gathering Space, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church
During Lent and at various other points throughout the year, Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) organizes parish-wide collections of hygiene items for migrant farmworkers in our community.
This Lent, from 03/02-04/06, in addition to collecting hygiene items for farmworkers, parishioners also have the opportunity to help "re-entry citizens" in our community.
Plastic bags and a list of items needed for each kit can be picked up in the gathering space after mass. Please return the completed bags to the bins in the gathering space no later than Sunday, April 06.

MIGRANT FARMWORKERS |
"RE-ENTRY CITIZENS" |
Every spring, an estimated 150,000 farmworkers pour into North Carolina to harvest cucumbers, tobacco, apples, sweet potatoes, green peppers, and Christmas trees. At the height of the growing season, farm workers often work 12-14 hours a day in the hot sun with few breaks, and the average farmworker earns less than $11,000 a year. Would that be enough for you to feed and support your family?
|
Every year over 15,000 men and women are released from North Carolina prisons. Restorative Transitions in Durham exists to welcome home the women and men coming out from incarceration by providing the individual support and resources needed for them to successfully reenter the community.
