2024 MOTHER'S DAY ROSE SALE THANK YOU!!!

Thank you to everyone who supported our annual Mother's Day Rose Sale! Thanks to your generosity, our parish raised over $2,000 again this year. This year's donations were sent to "Welcome Baby, Durham" to help support local pregnant mothers and young families in need.

We particularly would like to thank the Knights of Columbus for helping with our Rose Sale.

PREGNANCY AND PARENTING SUPPORT SERVICES

Most of the resources below have been provided courtesy of the Diocese of Raleigh's pastoral care Pregnancy and Parenting Support webpage. The diocese clearly states that they do not oversee and are not responsible for the activity of these services and organizations. This is always true for our parish as well. Please be sure to independently research/vet any organization or group before partaking in services.

PREGNANCY SUPPORT ADVOCACY AND EVENTS

BISHOPS ENCOURAGE BIPARTISANSHIP TO IMPROVE MATERNAL HEALTH CARE

Three bishop chairmen are urging Congress to engage in bipartisanship to address maternal health care needs, calling for policies that respect life and dignity, honor conscience rights, address health care affordability, and improve maternal health care so that it is comprehensive and high quality.
“Women face many obstacles in obtaining quality maternal health care, and we are especially concerned by the continued rise in the maternal mortality and morbidity rates and the accompanying racial disparities. We urge you to consider policies that, in line with our long-standing health care principles, provide health care formulated to meet the needs of mothers from every walk of life.”

The letter was signed by Archbishop Borys Gudziak, chairman of the USCCB’s Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development, Bishop Robert E. Barron, chairman of the USCCB’s Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth, and Bishop Michael F. Burbidge, chairman of the USCCB’s Committee on Pro-Life Activities. In the letter, they commend the bipartisan work reflected in the Preventing Maternal Deaths Reauthorization Act (H.R. 3838/S. 2415) and the PREEMIE Reauthorization Act (H.R. 3226/S. 1573), which address the maternal mortality crisis and the high rate of preterm births in the United States.

The letter in its entirety is available here.

TELL YOUR SENATORS:
PUT THE PREGNANT WORKERS' FAIRNESS ACT TO A VOTE!

Thank you to everyone who helped us collect items for babies and mothers throughout the month of May! All items collected in the marked containers in the gathering space or put in bags at the outdoor Mass were donated to Pregnancy Support Services.
The Pregnant Workers’ Fairness Act is simple: it requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations to pregnant workers on the job. This pro-life, pro-family and pro-worker measure passed the House overwhelmingly with a bipartisan majority, and now awaits a vote in the Senate. But time is running out, and unless the Senate leadership schedules a floor vote soon, the bill will die.
Picture
This critical legislation has brought together the Church, the labor movement, and a variety of women’s organizations. And it should: no woman should have to choose between her job and the health and safety of her unborn child. That’s one reason why Archbishop Paul Coakley, in the Bishops’ 2022 Labor Day Statement, told readers “With a short time left in this current legislative session of Congress, we urge immediate Senate passage of this proposal that would make the workplace safer for women and their preborn children.”

The Senators will only act if they think this issue is a priority for constituents. Please tell your Senators that you support the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act!
