A Special Announcement
Dear members of Immaculate Conception Parish and Immaculata School Community,
For more than 30 years, it has been the keen interest of Immaculate Conception Parish to acquire the two properties adjacent to the playground on Burch Ave. and Buchanan Blvd. We are pleased to announce that earlier this month, with the careful work of a team of parish and school staff and amazing volunteers, we completed the acquisition of the two properties. The new land acquisition adds to our permeable surface calculation, which is indispensable for any future expansion of our facilities. It also makes our campus safer for our school children.
By purchasing this land, we make provisions for the projected growth of our parish community and act as responsible stewards. Twenty-three years ago, my predecessor, Fr. David McBriar, OFM wrote Vision for the Future, Building God’s Church. In collaboration with various constituents of our parish community, the IC Building Plan was developed. We are grateful for Fr. David’s innovative vision and leadership as well as those of our lay partners in ministry who have collaborated with him.
Faithful to the proud legacy we have received, we are getting ready to embark on the next stage of our journey of faith. This new property acquisition presents us with a long-awaited opportunity to grow and provide for the new facility needs. We will proceed through a synodal process of listening and discerning together. It will engage members of our diverse parish and school communities and our Pastoral and Finance Councils.
We acquired the two parcels of land for $900,000. The Diocese of Raleigh gave us a low interest loan of $750,000. By taking on a loan, we are able to mobilize the funds to meet this present opportunity and spread the cost of this acquisition across the next fifteen years.
The Finance Council of our parish started to work on this acquisition last year. Their professional expertise, relationship building, and negotiation skills played a pivotal role in bringing to fruition the decades’ long dream of completing the land acquisition on Burch Ave and Buchanan. And for their work, I am grateful.
Once again, thank you for your ongoing contribution to the life and mission of our wonderful parish, giving witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Peace and all good,
Fr. Jacek Orzechowski, OFM
