JUSTICE, PEACE, AND INTEGRITY OF CREATION (JPIC)
IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH
Our JPIC web pages are created and designed based on the principles of Catholic Social Teaching (CST) to better facilitate communication and provide equal access to detailed descriptions of all our JPIC faith formation programs, ministries, and parish-wide events.
I hope making this information fully available to everyone will help to create a shared sense of our JPIC's history, vision, mission, and lived commitment to the Gospel as we build a stronger Franciscan parish community dedicated to being "a faith that does justice!" We want everyone to feel "welcome at the table." Please join us as we work together in loving service to God and our neighbors. |

CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING:
FAITH FORMATION AT THE CENTER OF JUSTICE, PEACE, AND INTEGRITY OF CREATION (JPIC)
Our JPIC faith formation programs and ministries are organized under three main categories based on the principles of Catholic social teaching to help ensure that our parishioners have the opportunity to share their insights, abilities, gifts, and talents in accordance with Immaculate Conception's mission and vision and our Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation's (JPIC) identity and mission. As we organize our efforts according to this common vision and mission, parishioners work together within each JPIC ministry to collaboratively work to define the specific goals, strategies, and plans they will pursue to carry out their ministry's purpose in loving service and in support of our community.
All our ministries are led by our parishioners who organize our programs, events, and advocacy, recruit one another, and provide opportunities for members to identify specific and concrete areas where God has called them to service. Together, united in faith and through God's grace, we work for justice by responding to the "signs of the times" in Durham and our greater global community.
Grounded in a commitment to ongoing Catholic social teaching faith formation and our call to discipleship embodied in the responsibility our parishioners demonstrate in their collective efforts, our JPIC addresses "both feet" of the Gospel call of love in action:

I. PROMOTING HUMAN DIGNITY (PHD)
JPIC faith formation and ministries that focus on the Catholic social teaching principles of "Life and Dignity of The Human Person," "Call to Family," and the "Preferential Option for the Poor and Vulnerable"
Our JPIC's Promoting Human Dignity ministries share a common mission to lift up the value and dignity of every human life, especially those living on the margins. We do this by engaging in service, offering formation opportunities, and advocating to challenge issues and systems which dehumanize God’s children, in our community and our world.

Pope Francis, in his encyclical letter Laudato Si', tells us that the "true ecological approach always becomes a social approach; it must integrate questions of justice in debates on the environment, so as to hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.” Our JPIC Care for Creation and Economic Justice ministries help our church pursue a God-centered response to countless environmental challenges and economic issues affecting those in our community. As a Laudato Si’ parish, we know that the way we treat the Earth, our common home, reflects how we treat each other and shape our economic social structures.
Our Care for Creation and Economic Justice ministries work to reduce the environmental footprint of the IC campus and provide learning opportunities, educational resources, and other materials on caring for our planet and economic justice. We also support legislative action, advocacy, and other initiatives to protect the environment, address climate change, just wages, workers' rights, and other related issues.
