CROP HUNGER WALK: A BRIEF OVERVIEW
Information courtesy of crophungerwalk.org
Every year our Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) helps to organize Immaculate Conception's participation in the Durham CROP Hunger Walk. Thanks to the generous donations and participation of our parishioners, Immaculate Conception has won the Durham CROP Hunger Walk Gold or Silver Sneakers Award numerous times over the last 20 years.
Beginning in 1947 as the Crop Project, "farmers were asked to donate food and seed crops to hungry neighbors" after WWII in Europe and Asia. The US also raised funds to ship surplus crops to hungry people worldwide. Today, the CROP Hunger Walk supports the global mission of Church World Service, a large, ecumenical faith-based relief organization helps people all over the world through just and sustainable responses to hunger, poverty, displacement, and disaster (food, water systems, farming help, and much more).

The Durham CROP Hunger Walk raises more than $6 million annually for World Relief. Locally, 25% of the funds raised by the Durham CROP Hunger Walk stay in our community to support local hunger fighting efforts, including Meals on Wheels, Urban Ministries, Food Banks, and Families Moving Forward. Parishioners can walk to help raise funds, sponsor a walker with a pledge, or volunteer and offer support for the event.

50th ANNUAL
DURHAM CROP HUNGER WALK
On behalf of Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC), thank you to all our parishioners who donated and participated in the 50th Annual Durham CROP Hunger Walk. This year’s Durham CROP Hunger Walk raised over $214,000 (a new record)! Immaculate Conception has raised over $10,200 (well over last year’s donation total).
None of this would have been possible without the combined efforts of our parishioners who took time to help: Registering others for the CROP Walk in the gathering spaces after masses; raising financial support like our Respeto ministry's Car Wash fundraiser; donating to our Love Fund ministry for this event; or simply gathering with friends to walk with us as a parish. Thank You!
