WHO WE ARE
The Furniture Project of Durham (FPOD) is a non-profit ministry comprised of all volunteers who willingly share their Time, Talent and Treasures to serve our fellow brothers and sisters in need in Durham since 2014.
WHAT WE DO
Our mission is to provide gently-used, donated furniture and household items that meet the basic physical and emotional needs of our clients so that they can feel like “their house is now a home”. Many of the families and individuals that we serve are moving from homelessness to stable housing, and others are in housing but are struggling to live without basic necessities such as beds, a kitchen table or cookware. All items are delivered free of charge by our grace-filled, dedicated staff, which thoughtfully tailors the selection of items to the needs and preferences of the clients, based on availability.
WHY WE DO IT
The Furniture Project of Durham serves referred clients that are in need and have reached out to local social service agencies such as Families Moving Forward, Housing For New Hope, etc. We prefer to work with agencies that have follow-up case management, since this greatly increases the probability that the recipients will have longer term housing stability, which is so important. We all try to live out the mantra that “We are our brother’s and sister’s keepers”.
WANT TO HELP
Volunteer: We currently have 23 volunteers and “the harvest is great but the laborers are few”. Therefore, we can always use more help. Volunteering options are flexible and varied too. Just try it and see if it is for you. If not, that is fine and we wish you well.
Donate: We do have storage space now and therefore we accept furniture and household donations along with monetary donations that we use to fund our basic storage costs and purchase items that we currently need but do not have. Our ministry is very cost- conscience and we are continually graced to multiply our meager.
